About Skanda Vale

Skanda Vale is a place of pilgrimage. All of our daily activities are designed to help you develop genuine peace of mind, self-awareness, clarity of purpose and devotion to God.

Skanda Vale represents no single culture or faith, but stands for the universal human values of Sathya (truth), Dharma (right conduct), Shanti (peace), Prema (love) and Ahimsa (non-violence).

Sacred Sites

There are several sacred sites in Skanda Vale, including the Samadhi (final resting place) of our founder, Guru Sri Subramanium.

Our Temples

Skanda Vale is home to four beautiful multi-faith temples. We also run a mountain retreat temple in the Swiss Alps, known as Somaskanda Ashram.

Worship at Skanda Vale

We offer daily pujas, plus live-streamed broadcasts to listen to at home.

Powered by the wind

We recently installed a 100kW wind turbine at Skanda Vale. Guru always wanted us to be self-sufficient; to keep the temples running, the animals cared for, and the doors open for anyone who needs us. This is a big step in that direction.

Our brand new Seva Hub

Most people work for money. These people work for... something else entirely. Come find out what drives 100,000 hours of selfless service at Skanda Vale Ashram and Hospice. Visit our new Seva Hub, near the main temple reception.

Guru Purnima 2025

In July, we celebrated Guru Purnima – the culmination of our annual Lord Shiva festival. We gathered at the samadhi of our founder, Guru Sri Subramanium for a yagam, followed by bhajans and a special mahabishekam to the shaligram. The hilltop puja continued into the night, with devotees gathered in prayer – a beautiful way to celebrate Guru's living presence.

Kali Procession 2025

On day three of our Lord Shiva Festival, we carried Mother Kali's small murthi in procession from Her temple to the Lord Murugan Temple for a special puja. The path fills with devotees singing bhajans and chanting mantras, while drums keep rhythm and coconut aarthis circle in blessing. It's a powerful moment of devotion during our annual festival.

Skanda Vale at Arunachala – A New Retreat Centre

We're creating a charitable trust to develop a simple retreat centre at the foot of Arunachala mountain in India. The modest space will honour the mountain's essence of stillness and spiritual inquiry, with infrastructure work now underway. This sacred project will unfold naturally over the coming years.

Bhakti & Ahimsa

This film captures a fundamental aspect of Skanda Vale—our commitment to the sanctity of all beings. Since Guru Sri Subramanium founded our ashram, caring for animals has been integral to our daily practice. Tending to creatures through illness and at the end of life demands both strength and tenderness. Yet here ahimsa becomes real—not as an ideal, but as practical devotion lived out in barns, fields, and sanctuaries.
