Skanda Vale Hospice
We help people find strength, dignity and peace of mind during some of life’s greatest challenges.
Skanda Vale Hospice offers highly individualised care and support to families affected by life-limiting illnesses, completely free of charge.
Our story
In 1987, the founder of Skanda Vale, Guru Sri Subramanium, had a severe heart attack. In the bed next to him lay a man dying. Despite their best efforts, the nurses could only spend a few minutes with the man, who died feeling lonely and afraid.
Recognising that hospitals sometimes struggle to meet the ‘whole-person’ care needs of those with life-limiting illnesses, Guru founded Skanda Vale Hospice.

what we do
Our services include Day Hospice, Overnight Respite, and Companionship. While we mainly serve the local counties of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire, we also accept referrals from other areas.
All our services are completely free of charge, regardless of age, gender, background, or beliefs. Everyone is welcome here.
OUR TEAM
Skanda Vale Hospice is run by volunteers. With the exception of a few paid team members, everyone here gives their time and skills for free.

“Here it’s a bit like heaven on earth. It’s renewed my faith in human nature. It really has. I mean, I was getting to be very sceptical about the human race, but I’ve discovered here a vein of humanity that is very, very special.”
— Peter Butler, Patient
People tell us all sorts of nonsense, you know – that we’re angels – which we’re not at all. But people are overwhelmed by the love that somehow just flows so easily here.
